Intravascular Optical Coherent Tomography (IOCT) is an imaging technology that provides in vivo detection and monitoring of the progression of coronary heart disease. The parameters (dynamic range, spatial resolution, and scanning rate) needed for the tomographic applications of the method proposed are obtained. In the interference measurements, theoretical limits of sensitivity are achieved. Experimental methods are developed and equipment is created for high-accuracy measurements based on optical low-coherence interferometry using single-mode polarization-maintaining optical fibers. The clinical studies (including endoscopic studies) were carried out using optical coherence tomography. Based on the achievements of fiber-optic interferometry, low-coherence semiconductor sources, and the application of modern electronics and software, a series of portable fast-scanning computerized optical tomographs adapted to clinical applications is developed. An experimental basis for realization of this method in various branches of science and medicine is created. A method to construct optical images of objects hidden in light-scattering media (optical coherence tomography) using low-coherence radiation and an optical interferometer with an anisotropic fiber is realized.
